After getting away with avoiding this film of my Brothers collection for over 20 years, tonight i had to cave in an watch it with him after giving it its first clean in 20 years. No dirt came off the film and while i am not a fan of this or any vintage comedy outside of Laurel & Hardy, it must be said that i was taken back by this print in every way.
A perfect image, rock Steady, bright and excellent contrast throughout, first class sound and unbelievably, not a single line to seen on any part of this movie. I did have a few loud smiles, some very funny one liners but it wasn't my cup of tea. This print is a credit to DCR unless of course it was a Derann re release. There was nothing before the titles to say it was either. A good fun movie as a one off,but Brother was laughing his nuts off.
Oh, Mr Porter! is a 1937 British comedy film starring Will Hay with Moore Marriott and Graham Moffatt and directed by Marcel Varnel. While not Hay's commercially most successful (although it grossed £500,000 at the box office – equal to over £30,000,000 in modern-day money), it is probably his best-known film to modern audiences. It is widely acclaimed as the best of Hay's work, and a classic of its genre. The film had its first public showing in November 1937 and went on general release on 3 January 1938. The plot of Oh, Mr Porter was loosely based on the Arnold Ridley play The Ghost Train. The title was taken from Oh! Mr Porter, a music hall song.
