What can i say about this movie that hasn't already been said? One of the funniest film i saw in the cinema upon its release in 1980. I was only 18 at that time so it certainly appealed to my generation. One laugh after another with a bombardment of one liners and visual gags for an hour and a half, can you think of another way to make you forget all the worries of daily life? i cant.
When this came out on our gauge i had to get a good used copy. The choice ,as always, was the 3 x 400, the 400ft, the 200ft and the full feature. The full film was out of my reach in money , the 400 and 200 would never have satisfied me as cut-downs. So i looked for and found this 3 x 400ft. No matter how marketting would have edited this film, there would certainly be scenes left out that toy wished was in there. The one thing i like about this one is that it does have some of the original titles along with the original "The End" title. As you will see from image 1, although this film was purchased as one unit, edited together on this reel with the light shinning through, you can clearly see it is made up of two film stocks. The sound on all three is excellent, (reel 2 not quite as bassy), the frame and focus is all the same, BUT, the colour on the second 400ft reel is definatly better with only the very lightest of any fade. Reels one and three are still pretty good but with a little more fade.
Unfortunatly, as always, my digi camera appears to exaggerate the fade and does not show the true blues and greens, however, i think you get the idea. Just the odd light line that comes and goes during the first reel but most people dont even notice.
A very funny film and with a great cast of serious actors doing comedy as good as any one else. All very scilly stuff, but it is a comedy.
