In A LONELY PLACE

#1 by Gwyn Morgan , Fri Dec 29, 2017 10:47 am

For the last week I have been showing "FILM STARS DONT DIE IN LIVERPOOL" which is the story of the later years of the Hollywood film star Gloria Graham.
To compliment the second week run of this film,I have today madeup and checked a 35mm print in pristine condition of the film "IN A LONELY PLACE" issued
by Park Circus. This is the 1950 film starring Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Graham, running 93 mins in black and white, mono sound on five reels.
This is the story of a gifted but washed up screenwriter with a hair trigger temper(H>B),who becomes a prime suspect in a brutal Tinsletown murder. The only person who can supply an alibi for him is a seductive neighbour with her own troubled past.(GG).

Looks like a stunning print. Wouldn´t mind owning it, as I can screen 35 mm in my home cinema.

David, thanks for your offer but this is not mine it’s where I work and we have plenty of 35mm reels of all sizes.I fear that 2018 will finally be the demise of the Art Centres 35mm showings as we were refused a grant from the Arts Council, first time in the centres existance so only time will tell.

Mats,
This is best print I have made up in years. All leaders and tails original and no splices throughout the five reels. The leader on reel one did not have a splice on any part of it.The film came wrapped in plastic within the tins and I can only describe the print as mint.
Only hope we get the audience.

From a personal point of view it’s just really nice to have film ,so many memories and the sound of reel film going through a 35 mm machine with the digital machine silent for a couple of hours....bliss.

I believe Gloria Grahame died in London after making 'A Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square', with David Niven.
