Clock Cleaners

#1 by Eivind Mork , Fri May 06, 2016 12:08 pm

The colors where great. Some red, but not much at all. The sound was a bit disappointing and missing treble and a bit difficult to hear. I thought I had the full version, but my son made me aware that they had cut out the bit where Mickey fight a bird in the clock. I guess that was done to make it fit in a 200' reel. The box was in great shape. All in all happy with the buy. And, yes Vidar: Donald said f*** you :-)

I could never understand a word that character spoke, much preferred Daffy, who was a good clean livin' duck, no
curses there, heh heh.

Colours seem pleasant enough Elvind.

Yes, the colors are great. Just saw that Three for Breakfast was even better :-) Jeg guess it was unfair to the film to say "some red".

Clock Cleaners is a unusually long Disney toon. Originally it has 9 minutes runtime. I have it on 35mm and it´s much more film on the reel than usual

I've got the WDHM Super 8mm version and I hadn't noticed it having a particularly long run time.
Maybe it's slightly cut?

Just reading Eivinds initial post on this, it is course missing a scene from the original full release sorry.

Mine has very good colour I'd say, but it was given to me on the beginning of a feature and isn't without a little scratch or two.
I removed it from the feature and have just kept it now as a separate independent 200ft short.

Is 8:11 the full run time? Youtube clip is that length and imdb.com say 9 minutes, but they use whole minutes only

Will have to check mine. I really thought it was complete. Thought only Walton cut their 200's

Certainly many of the Disney 400ft prints contain shortened versions of their cartoons. I've never really thought about their 200 footers?

The majority of the 200ft Disney prints I have, are mostly excerpts from their feature films but I do have one or two classic Disney shorts.

I love those 200's myself. Much more than the shorts on the 400' compilations and the extracts/digests from the features

Oh I don't know Vidar, Jolly Holiday is a brilliant excerpt!

I think they're all brilliant, myself.

I checked on YouTube, and the whole bird-sequence is cut. This is more than two minutes. The rest seems to be in place.

Now I have two out of 5 from the 400' "Mickey & his Pals" on 200': Clock Cleaners and the Hawaii episode (can't remember the correct name at the moment). All those 5 are brilliant. Now I need to find Ship builders, the ghost epsiode and the whaling episode :-) Mickey & his Pals whas the first cartoon I bought more than 25 years ago so it will allways have a special place in the collection even though I hunt for the complete (or almost complete ;-) ) versions of all the sorts on 200'. Had to pay quite a bit for Clock Cleaners, but it was all worth it.

Hi Vidar, regarding running times, remember there is a difference of frame rate on DVD running times compared to
theatrical running times of 4%, the IMDB is not totally reliable, as was noted in "Little Shoppe of Horrors". I'd have
thought the most reliable way would be to find out the length of the film in feet ( 35mm ) then just divide by four, that
should give a more reliable figure to film length. It shouldn't be too difficult to discover, there are film books I have that give
the length in feet of various features.

I know DVD is different, imdb should list original running time. I have noticed imdb isn't completely to be trusted. Youtube video I yave no idea if that is a DVD rip or other. I hope to see through my CC today. I am noen t sure, but I think it has a bird scene

Let me know if you got the bird or not, Vidar. Wonder if there are different 200' versions or if all have the bird missing. I guess they all do, or else it would be pretty full. Would need a 300' I guess.

My 200' with 1 meter extra leader and a light pressure. Not much extra room here.

I've seen spools that are overflowing Elvind, others are lucky to be two thirds full.

This isn't overfull, but I guess it would have been with two and a half minutes more. Sounds reasonable that most Donald/Mickey films are full on a 200', but since Clock Cleaners are extra long they cut it down.

I must add that my wife was fascinated that we now have a long thread discussing the cut down of one scene of a presumed full version of a Disney cartoon :-) It is very nice to have a forum where people understand :-)

I think I got a Disney short running over 9 minutes on a 200' ... Could it be The Old Mill perhaps? Old man with poor memory

You´re correct Vidar. The Old Mill has nine minutes runtime. I have a WDHM Super 8 print. It´s a full, but not overfilled reel.

Eivind! CHC have a Hawaiian Hoiday for sale. I have a Boat Builders print for sale, but you have to get into 35mm to watch it.

Here's my Clock Cleaners, running just over 8 minutes. Not too full either. Could probably get a couple of more minutes (but then it would be full)

Decent colours on mine too, doesn't feel like a WDHM, more Derann feel to the picture. Has a small emulsion stripe (green one for about 20-30 seconds). Nothing that makes me feel ill or anything, can live with that just fine

And I think the bird scene is complete (it must be the same as I've pictures of here I assume). I don't know how long the scene was, but felt complete
