One Nil To The Wife!

#1 by Andrew Woodcock ( deleted ) , Tue Apr 19, 2016 9:51 am

Spent a big chunk of yesterday ferrying my film collection and some of my projectors, magazines and spare parts over to their new home.
The time had finally come when the wife said ENOUGH!!

So I've reverted the house back to a normal persons accommodation, with wardrobes and cupboards that now only contain clothes and socks! Ha ha.

My films now have a new home in a temperature controlled commercial 24hr lock up cabin.
It's something I always rented for my DJ equipment in the past, but now I'm back again, this time swapping Vinyl and Cd's, Speakers and Lighting Effects, for Film!

As a result, I now have a newly rejuvenated and highly elated wife once more...and equally important (to me at least), I get to add to and keep my collection this way without ending up in the divorce courts ...again hopefully!

I'm now allowed no more than 5 features in the house at any one time. Now there is a compromise! Ha ha.

lol Andrew, the things we have to do to accommodate the wife, they just don't get it do they, if I talk to my wife about super 8 for more than 5 minutes I have to wake her up

hahaha, be more subtle Andrew, when I'm sat talking to my wife we can be talking about the man in the moon but after a few minutes she will say "how on earth did we manage to get back to talking about super 8" I just look very sheepish

Super 8 should be renamed to Super Obsessive Del!

It would be easier on you guys if you put your wives into storage and let her out on
the odd occasion .
Now that IS a compromise in your favour.

Where film is concerned boys, if you're going to say anything, say bugger all, it saves a lot of aggro.

hahaha I do it sometimes to wind her up, plus it's also her money as much as mine I spend so I like her to know where it's going

Del, ignorance is bliss, what they don't know can't hurt 'em, just plead innocence, "Films?, it must be years since I bought a film woman!"
something like that, and see how it goes, best to make an exit, that adds to the mystery.

I feel lucky here, my Wifey cant tell me off because i 'm fortunate to have a dedicated windowless room, apart from that she also loves the films.
If i downsize one day i will miss this, have to say though, it needs some finishing touches, A/put all the crap away on the floor,B/ a nice pair of motorised black screen curtains. C/ a copy of Die hard and Silence of the lambs, (platoon and a few others)

Tom...I love your screening room and do I see a model of the Orca being attacked by Jaws? That is very cool indeed! I wish my film room / area was that well organized but it will be in due course.

Thanks everyone, i just wish i was better with my hands so i could make it more cinema like,
The room size is 13.4ft x 11ft wide, it is basically the room directly below our living room, we are fortunate to have a well it basement with rooms, garage, hallway and even a toilet. allow me to show you all around, its not often i get to show off. The actual room was painted and decorated for me as a Xmas present by my first wife. She was extremely artistic, look at the walls outside of the film room.
First image, going from the hallway on ground level down to the basement/garage/garden area,
[[File:IMG_8694.jpg|none|auto]]
next the hand painted walls in lower hallway giving access to the film room. garage next door along and the toilet.
[[File:IMG_8696.jpg|none|auto]][[File:IMG_8697.jpg|none|auto]][[File:IMG_8698.jpg|none|auto]]
Then into the film room, (i should give it a name really, any ideas?)
[[File:IMG_8700.jpg|none|auto]]
If you look at the wall there is what appears to be a negative style film strip, this was a black strip hand painted, the white dots painstakingly dotted in with white paint, and the scribbles of white make it look film like.

Then there are my toys,er i mean movie pieces, The Jws and Orca were purchased in Florida on our family holiday in 2002, my Brother visits the states every year and brings items back, Leatherface is a room protector, walk in front of him and you hear a short scene from the film, Sally being chased, lots of screaming and chainsaw sound , There is also Robby the Robot and of course Robot from Lost in space and many other fun thnigs.
[[File:IMG_8702.jpg|none|auto]][[File:IMG_8703.jpg|none|auto]][[File:IMG_8704.jpg|none|auto]][[File:IMG_8705.jpg|none|auto]][[File:IMG_8706.jpg|none|auto]][[File:IMG_8707.jpg|none|auto]]
Here is the bench where i clean, epair and rewind all our movies along with a small part of our projectors including my Brothers favourite, an immaculate Eumig 822 sonomatic. [[File:IMG_8708.jpg|none|auto]]
[[File:IMG_8709.jpg|none|auto]]
Of course no cinema,(or film room) is complete without some yummies, here is my recent Birthday present from my dear Daughter, 4 hard plastic popcorn holders complete in each one is a bag of toffee popcorn and rainbow drops.
Here is the collection i keep at my home and my trustee Elmo and amp i use for our viewing pleasure.
[[File:IMG_8710.jpg|none|auto]][[File:IMG_8714.jpg|none|auto]][[File:IMG_8716.jpg|none|auto]]
here we have an original Disney lobby card from Robin Hood, one af 5 in both colour and b/w
[[File:IMG_8720.jpg|none|auto]]
And finally the way out, last one out please close the door!

Tom thanks for that information and further photos. Great stuff ! I like it.
I am now thinking that as I lose the room that was to be my Home Cinema due
to my forthcoming house move that I may just make my main Living Room or even
my Bedroom a Home Cinema. My thinking cap is on now how to get the best of both
worlds. I don't have to consider anyone else as there is now only me these days.

Tom has the Midas Touch Bill!

2 attempts, and I'm still no nearer! Ha ha ha.

Still, I wouldn't change her for the world.

Nor did I have a first wife that can draw and paint Disney murals in your cinema room, like Tom's did!

Pleased to hear you are happy with the wife Andrew, I was going to suggest you return the films to the house and put the wife in the cabin

This is a photo of one of our rooms; the wife complains she cannot reach the plant to water it!

Thanks everyone for the kind words, yes i have been lucky twice really, having said that 90% of my viewings are on my own although i do enjoy every minute with or without an audience.
Aside from the walls i keep meaning to gut everything out and re-do it all with less rubbish around. It use to double up as the kids playroom when they were tiny although i still have some of there toys in there.
There is a big window between the film room & the garage, so many people say that the garage is a natural projection booth,(with a solid wall its also soundproof), but i like to be in the room with the audience & the projector, and i do love sitting next to it during the film shows.
Bill, it would make a great workshop for you.

Lol Bill.
You have some superb equipment to hand there Bill, including some very fine loudspeakers by the looks of things!
Might they just be a mighty fine refined set of B&W floorstanders you happen to have there Bill?
