Does anyone know of someone who can make some cardboard boxes for 800' reels, Super 8? I would love to have some 10+ of those
If someone can do them, only large batches, we might be enough to get an order

Have you considered 16mm cans Vidar, far better than boxes, they can be obtained on ebay or through dealers like Phil.
Have features on 1200' + 800' and would like box for single reel
I see some costing 20 dollar, but shipping on top AND Norwegian taxes makes it not worth it. Could put it on 2x1200' in worst case

Well, here's an idea, put your measurements into ebay, and see what comes up, you might be pleasantly surprised, I did this when
Andrew was searching for 600' boxes, it showed the usual card and it put up alternatives, not quite the same, but excelled on 1200' boxes, clear plastic that looked
very nice.
It's always been tricky to manufacture card boxes for the Super 8mm 800ft reel size Vidar, simply because there are at least 3 different sized diameter 800ft spools depending on the hub size used in manufacture.
The 3 different common plastic 800ft sized ones I have come across start with the smallest being the Grasso cine book style spools, then the Schneider, Posso, Bonum medium sized reels and finally the largest being Elmo, Sankyo and Gepe spools.
This doesn't even take into account manufacturers such as Taylor or USA metal spools which can be different again.
No one box would ever fit all of these different plastic spools correctly.
If you were to get some made, you'd have to either buy to fit the largest or get specific ones made dependent on which reel types you have.
I was not aware of that. Thought they were 9" ... Hmmm ... Bigger is better than smaller anyways.
Thanks for the info

i had a conversation with Ged at Derann some years back when they ran out. Apparently there was a part of the machine used to manufacture the boxes they sold of this popular size which required replacement, the cost was a couple of thousand and they said the orders just would not pay for it.
Here in Plymouth there is a company who can manufacture them,we gave them one of ours as a perfect model for manufacturing, unfortunately the minimum order they would do was several hundred.I popped the question on the 8mm forum but unbelievably only got enquires for around a total of 30 so we had to drop the idea.
i shall make fresh enquires through my trade this week and let you know.

I have said it before, but I will do so again, Andrew, my son, indulge me, I fully realise how a lot of you chaps need loads
of these things, but I still reckon, a couple of hours a night would reap rewards for you. Buy your card, use a box as a template,
glue it up. Oh I know it sounds like work, of course it is, but, the most expensive commodity is labour, NOT if its yours, so think like
a factory, you have a heap of card, you have your template, you mark out your card one night, the next you cut it out, the following
nights glue them up. Where is the problem, put on your favourite music and get stuck in. Time & motion studies prove it can be done,
so save a lot of your hard earned cash and make your own, fer Christ's sake lads, show a bit of "you can do", believe me, you can, it is
a simple three stage operation, mark, cut, glue. Total cost; your card, a bit of glue, ( Unibond is good ), the rest is enjoyment, you get the chance to catch up on those NEGLECTED LPs , CDs and Tapes, A win win situation.
I agree Hugh! When I was a teenager, I made my own cardb boxes. It´s easyly done. Just measure an original box. All that´s needed is card, glue, a ruler and a sharp knife. I made two piece boxes and the looked really professional.

If I had no soundtracks to record, no artwork to create, no projector projects to work on for sync innovation and extra brightness solutions,.
No dog to walk, no shopping to do and no hungry mouths to feed, no new shed to build, no carpets to vacuum, no washing to do and iron and no job to attend , no car to maintain and clean etc etc.......I would Hugh.
As things stand, having the time in my life, in my case, to knock up boxes, is way down on my priority list unfortunately.
It's time consuming enough for me creating and fitting the artwork onto the pre made boxes.
Andrew, never mind the excuses, we all have responsibilities, spend less time on 8mm forum and more on your boxes.
ha ha ha!
I do the forum in between the rest!
Give me a 26 hr day and I'll see what I can do.
