A One Off Lifetime Opportunity!

#1 by Andrew Woodcock ( deleted ) , Mon Feb 01, 2016 10:53 am

Moving on, I also have received a snippet of news regarding a job lot sale of every single Disney Feature film ever released for sale on Super 8mm becoming available.

This includes titles that were never released by Derann but were by other companies apparently? As well as ALL the Derann releases, there is included in the sale others such as Song Of The South, Robin Hood , Fantasia plus Make Mine Music.

Altogether this set comprises of 30 full feature films all Disney titles.

I have no idea what kind of price the owner of this prestigious collection of prints would want for all of these, but again if a club or individual has any interest in this once in a lifetime opportunity, then please just get in touch by PM and I will forward your details in confidence.

The owner very much wishes only to sell as a complete set to benefit an avid fan of these films.

Andrew,

Although this is a brilliant oppertunity of 30 Disney features, I doubt if any collector would want all 30 of the titles in one go (as like yourself, who already own many Disney prints) , let alone afford them, even if the seller asked silly prices, even myself as a dealer cpuld not afford 30 in one go, so it may be hard selling them in one lot, I'm afraid.

You're right of course Barry, but there is always someone in life who would view this as a true one off hassle free opportunity.
Someone is already enquiring I can tell you.

This is not intended as business venture for a dealer btw, these won't come cheap I'm certain. So I doubt there could ever be any money to make from these.
It would appear this opportunity is intended for avid collectors of such who may be seeking only the odd few titles but then could distribute from their joint collection any that they no longer need or have two of. For a large collector of these, like myself if you like, it would simply give me the opportunity to keep the very best condition of each print in almost all cases, then sell the rest perhaps.

For me personally, I do not wish to collect any title that is not a Derann title or is not on low fade stock, but for others, the story may be very different.
So in nutshell, I'd say it is intended for someone with none or someone with nearly all, that would dearly love a full set one day.

Andrew,

I don't think I would have actually gone in for these, as you say only the Derann prints are guaranteed to be mostly on low fade stock. I've had some of the Italian titles in the past, and they are very varied in quality, and most probably on SP stock, and even some of the Derann titles are getting hard to sell, it took me over a year to sell a mint copy of "Beauty & the Beast", and my price was nothing compared to what some ebay sellers ask for. I do hope the collector does sell them in one go, it would be amazing for him.

a very good haul there Andy, but i think even if i could afford all the films in one go, looking at the sum of money im guessing at i would have to do a reality check, they all cartoons and how often would one get to view them? A great oppertunity though and that collector did very well to have such a vast collection.

They certainly shift very quickly on the film tech forum and e bay Barry if they are in near mint condition. This is almost irrespective of price!

I'm surprised to hear you struggled to sell one of Derann's finest and best selling prints of all time Barry.

Screenshots always help nowadays in this technological era to help promote quick and easy sales for all of the genuinely good stuff left.

Tom the fact that they are all "cartoons" is the very point of this sale.

These to some, are one off pieces of historical art form that you can never see in this original non remastered state ever again in many many cases.
A one off deal involving the real actual Disney negs from the Disney Studios themselves!
All historically captured on real low fade film stock while pre striped stock was still available in nearly all cases, then printed by the best lab we ever had.

These prints can never be repeated to this same standard on any home useable film gauge as many are in glorious Stereo also.

There isn't a single Disney title of mine that hasn't been viewed at least half a dozen times by myself alone except my very latest.
They are extremely repeatable and highly enjoyable given the timeless scores that also so often complement these.
As said, to some folk, these are works of artistic genius and represent painstaking amounts of human endeavour.
Animation at its very very best.

Alessandro... keep looking, as said they are out there and one will turn up albeit more than likely not near mint (very few of this title are now sadly).

I promise I will post some shots from the best print I've ever managed to find since selling the one I purchased brand new from Derann in 92.

It's not perfect, but is still very very good!

Here's a thought, Barry knows the chap selling his collection, he wants a quick sale, then why not use Barry as negotiator, all you
collectors of Disney, decide the titles you want, form a collective of buyers and surely you then have the buying power to get the
whole lot between you.

It's a nice thought Hugh but one I doubt could or would ever come to fruition.

It was myself that alerted this potential sale, so I don't even know that Barry does know the seller personally?

It would take an interested party of at least 7 or 8 people, all wanting different titles, all having a frivolous balotteli style wallet full of cash. Highly unlikely I'm afraid.

It's a nice thought Hugh, and to be fair the guy is hoping that a film club if not an individual will pursue the offer, but I really don't believe we would ever have enough interested and agreeing members here to pull it off unfortunately.

I sure wouldn't like to coordinate such a venture!

All it would take would be one sub standard print and the disarray would be unbearable I think.

I've learned to take the rough with the smooth regarding this hobby of ours but not everyone is like me in that respect.

My apologies Andrew, misread the post. True it would be a tough one, I'd still approach him on titles you are after though, if the
price is right, he might relent.

He said, he will not sell for the time being if they needed to be divided. Maybe some time in the future perhaps, who Knows?

Andrew,

Yes it did take me that long to sell "Beauty & the Beast", but I never ever use ebay, I might as well just let it go with one of my discounts on old 8mm film (which it did, eventually!) than pay the ebay fees.

You might try the forums in future Barry for these type of "one off" prints.
Here and over at 8mm film-tech, these type of titles would sell quickly and well for you I feel.

Ian sold a Disney title in less than an hour only a few days ago. Good to him back on the scene again.

BTW Barry, do you still have 131118 to go in front of my feature here?
