The Story of Disney 8MM Films

#1 by Timothy Duncan ( deleted ) , Sat Jan 09, 2016 9:25 pm

I ran across this article on the Internet today. I found it quite interesting as I have a few of these. I have taken even more of an interest in them lately as it gives me an excuse to bring out the projector for my two year old nephew!

Does anyone else here collect them?

I surely do! I have most of the 200 films released by Disney. In the sixties I also bought Disney films released by Film Office, Paris. Unfortunately the color prints are now red. I also have some Derann prints. Derann was licenced by Disney and continued printing up to 2007, as far as I know. These prints are great and sought after by collectors.

Should and could we start a list of all released titles on 200' by Disney? Would love to know what's available and also include colour/B&W/Sound/Silent

Excellent idea Vidar! I'd love to know what was released so that I can know what to keep my eye out for. I'd like to know what was available in 400' reels too. I only have one of those.

Yeah! Let´s do that. It started back in the 30´s. I have a lot of titles from Hollywood Film Enterprises. All 8 mm black/white, mute. Some titles where also in 16mm Bl/w Optical sound. All where cutdowns. Disney´s own 8mm Company started up in the late 70´s.

The 400´ reels contains only cutdowns. No complete cartoons there, unfortunately. I have just a few of these.

I have quite a few of the WDHM shorts including the 400ft ones. The last I purchased was Disney's Greatest Chases. When I''m next off I will post about each of them on here.

As Mats says, the 400 footers usually have 4 or 5 cartoons on each but none are ever fully complete though in many cases they are really well edited just like the T & J Toons are from Walton.

Another favourite 400 foot compilation reel of mine, is A Walt Disney Christmas.

The best Disney compilation reel though, by a country mile, is the Derann 600ft release of "Once Upon A Mouse".
It's a superb fast moving look at all the various era's and sensational work, short and long, of the infamous Disney Studios. A real masterpiece.
