ENTER THE DRAGON CONT'D

You'd be forgiven for thinking that this was a big budget film, but the opposite is true, it was made for very little money, the sets
were made from chicken wire and earth, Bob Clouse remembers it was a nightmare scenario keeping hold of the furniture used
in the film, it used to disappear back to various hire shops over the shooting, which made continuity very diificult....

During production, Bruce Lee thought Bob Wall, his bearded opponent, and Karate Champion had caused him to "lose face",
he had thought Wall had actually tried to harm him during a fight when Wall had resorted to using water bottles as a weapon
in the script, Lee was convinced he had tried to harm him and swore he would kill him before the film ended, losing face is
very important to orientals, as was proved when an extra in the film challenged Lee to a fight, before he knew what had happened,
the guy was oozing blood and spitting teeth.

Thankfully, Clouse avoided death on the set and convinced Lee of Wall's innocence. Using real glass bottles on set then in
Hong Kong was natural, as sugar glass was unknown. The stunts where extras are kicked or hurled into rock strewn riverbeds
are real, they didn't use cardboard boxes to lessen the falls, no doubt injuries were rife.

The scenes of lost drunken men were quite literally that, they used unfortunates as the inmates and real prostitutes, who
complained of loss of earnings, which made the girls high earners during production.

Jacky Chan, as an unknown extra on the film, who was relieved of his weapon in the underground scrap, got a smack in the face,
a very apologetic Lee, ran over and hugged and comforted Chan, telling him he would be in his next film, Jacky still recounts how Lee snugged him, sadly that promise couldn't be kept...

Bruce died during dubbing of the soundtrack, due to having an allergic reaction to cannabis leaf, which he did use,he was warned before
as he had been taken to hospital on a previous occasion, but sadly, he ignored the warnings and paid dearly

A truly great film, a milestone in martial arts movies, many have imitated, but non have come near, no clever editing, no computer
effects, this chap was the business, I myself did martial arts for two years solid at three clubs a week, it was bloody hard work, so to Bruce Lee, I certainly take off my hat, a true master of his arts, inc. nunchucks, escrima, bo jitsu sticky hands and Gung Fu. Sadly, the
lovely actress Ahna Capri was killed in an horrific car accident. Geoffrey Weeks, the very English toss pot in the film, died shortly after making it . Anyway, I hope not to have bored our members on an indulgence of mine, take care. Hugh.

The final scenes. I dearly admire this man and his films, but what a loss to the world, reputedly the fittest and
most graceful man , which being a dancer would be natural, a Cha Cha champion no less. The world will never
see his like again. Hope I haven't bored our members, apologies if so.

Great. Was it censored? In Norway these films were so short due to the censor. I got a 400' Super 8 only myself

In my top ten favourite films of all time, he was the "all action hero" , and certainly this man invented the concept of "mixed martial arts", ask any cage fighter, they are in no
doubt. A great movie, I have on 8mm 4 x400 ft bought from derann , but I don't think the colour is as good as Hugh 16mm version what great find that was, but I'm not too
concerned its Bruce Lee after all what's not to like. Great screen shots Hugh.

Hi Vidar, yes it was censored on re release in the UK, the "Nunchucks" were removed, a lad at work wanted the uncensored video,
but I rubbed it in that all I had was the 8mm vesion, but yes, there was a clampdown on video "nasties", somehow this film was highlighted as trouble, the cops don't like weapons better than theirs shown, although they themselves use the Tonfa, or riot stick,
originally a weapon against the sword, but US cops use it, I doubt if they can use it as it should be used, I'd love to see a martial
artist take a cop to pieces with them, in combat, they are used in pairs.
