What's your regular lens?

#1 by Robert Crewdson ( deleted ) , Sun Oct 25, 2015 7:48 pm

I am interested to know what lens other 16mm users use. With my living room about 13 or 14 feet, the standard 2" lens is too small; I recently got a 1" wide barrel lens, which will fill my 50" screen. The narrow barrel F1.9 lens can be picked up with not too much difficulty, but this is the first time I have seen an F1.4 wide barrel lens, so I wondered what others use?. The Bell & Howell zoom lens is only the equivalent of a 1 and half inch lens; not suitable for me, but perhaps if you live in an older house, some of which have a 20ft living room, it might be OK.

Robert I use an B & H 32mm f / 1:4 lens for my 15 feet room and also a 25mm f / 1:4 for smaller rooms.

I also have one of those zoom screw in adaptors as well and a zoom lens however I find that you lose some bite and contrast with it.

For 16mm, I use the lens with the projector, an f1.2, but as now with the early nights here, I'll be using the B&H zoom f1.6 35-65mm.
The 8mm stuff, I like the Eumig & Bolex prime lenses. The throw is about 26 feet onto a 10 foot 'scope screen masked to 4x3

I have a Singer Zoom Lens 1.5-2.5 f/1.6 with an adapter to fit my Elmo 16-CL. Works for me, have no idea if it's good or not, but gives me a picture I live fine with

Hugh you are a lucky man to have a to have such a throw. I like you prefer to use prime lenses.

Yes Clyde it sure does. I suppose some of us will have to compromise at some point and learn to live with.

I noticed on the 1" lens there was a filter thread, I wondered what it was for, I haven't checked out the standard 2" to see if that has one. Recently, Grahame Newnham was advertising an 0.75 lens, but it wasn't a B&H manufacture, I did a bit of research and the maker didn't have a very good reputation.

For my Elmo 16-CL I have a 25mm f1.5. I also have a 50mm which I never use (the original lens), since my room is not very big.
