Can any-one tell me if it is worth looking at getting a Rank Aldis 16mm projector, I think I read somewhere that the early models had reel take up and rewind problems, which was sorted in later models but how do you know one model from the other?.

I can't answer that one Steve, but you need to know what type of lamp they take, and if they are easily available at reasonable cost.

The Rank Aldis was made by Bauer and was based on their P7 model. I have two, and a later Bauer P8.

The early model Rank Aldis uses the small A1/223 lamp, the mirror being in the projector. The later model progressed to the A1/259 (ELC) lamp and now incorporated a still device. This is easily noticed by its red coloured operating knob on the rear. This later model also changed the design of the rear pulleys near the take-up spool.

I have never had problems with any of these.
