What would one expect to pay for a sound Regular 8 machine?

And which model should one try to find?

Hi Vidar, there''s a coincidence, I have on;y just purchased a Mark S709 off ebay, lovely condition, hardly any wear, runs sweet as a nut for the princely sum of £35.50 inc. post. I was lucky, so expect to pay anything between £25.00 to £100+, and that is the same for the old Mark S machines. In my opinion they are the best little projector built, good sound repro, 600' spool capacity, although you might need to rub a shade off the take up spool for it to turn, no problem with S709s, they are sturdy, heavy and exceptionally kind to film.
They are also very trustworthy and tend to run forever.

Yes, I feel my Eumig Mark-S 710D is not running okay. It will run if I first load the film, then remove the side panel and the small panel at the end where the film goes out, then tighten the loop completely and then press the feeder thing (that remakes the loop) ... Then it usually runs fine for the whole reel. It seems it makes the loop slightly to big. And that's not so fun when showing films for others. For me, it's okay.

So the 709 is a Regular 8 only or a dual too? I'd like a dedicated Regular 8 one myself.

That will be Dual Guage.

Hi Vidar! The Mark S was the first ( 1964 ) eumig magnetic sound projector. Regular 8 only. In 1965 they built a super 8 version Mark S super 8. Then came Mark S 701 and 709. 701 is super 8 only and 709 is dual gauge. The original Mark S was the only Standard 8 only, sound projector from Eumig. Great machines, but tends to need a little warm up, before the show. ( Just let them run a couple of minutes, without film ) These projectors where my dream machines in my childhood and I bougt a brand new 709 in 1969. It´s still running with original sound heads. Today in Sweden, you can find one for 25 - 50 £.

I would go for a Standard 8mm Mark S Eumig projector the reason being that there is a slight compromise with the dual gauge ones.
