I bought this just before Christmas, Rank Aldis automatic, Mag/opt with magnetic recording capability , I've seen them over the years but never fancied one before, to start with it was the recording option that appealed to me but after using it a couple of times I realised what a superb machine it is, well built and pretty quiet and most importantly kind to film, a few nice touches on it cleaning wise as you can open all the guides for cleaning and a push of a button on each guide cover they pop back into place, also a handy switched light, also a nice zoom lens, an added bonus is my Elf lenses fit so can use them too, very impressed,

Also from my Daughter for Christmas a 16mm feature The Way We Were in Scope, faded but a nice gift, Mark

Well, I still havent watched a Christmas purchase yet - John Saxon in Blood Beach on 16mm and yesterday I received Rosie Dixon - Night Nurse on 16mm - a 70's sex comedy with a cracking cast of comic actors no longer with us.

Yes Tom the projector is in lovely condition with very little use, gives the Elmo CL a rest for a while. I'm sure it's made by Bauer.

Ran a couple of trailers and they look like new, even the boxes are nice, no squashed ones etc, either a well looked after machine or not viewed much, Mark

Nice collection of trailers there Mark, and an Adverts reel. I love collecting trailers and shorts myself and recently bought a few from Ebay.

Got two new Super 8's this week:
The World in Flames –War between USSR and Finland (400)
The Cat Concerto (200, Tom & Jerry).

Now I miss just one in the World In Flames series. I have been collecting it for years.

The last one was with a plain cover. I guess I need to print myself a cover from Super8database 😉

Paul, the trailer would be good to own if it comes up, the film is described by Cecil B. de Mille. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7N4EHsHr9Y

In my quest to collect as many films-about-film as possible, I came across this 20-minute 1949 Time/Life episode (re-edited from a 1939 original), and which was shown in cinemas at the time. It's part of the March of Time series and is called March of the Movies. It traces the history of cinema in the context of film as 'art', originally recognized for being so by the Museum of Metropolitan Art in NYC.

I found the film in the CHC lists, so they're always worth close examination. Both Phil and Barry at BFCC regularly have gems in their catalogues. The film was released on Super 8 by Collectors Club. The print itself is nothing to write home about and has quite a bit of wear and scratching, but the anomalies appear to suit the content. I find scratches and image imperfections can be a fitting time stamp sometimes particularly on B&W material, even if they are usually the result of previous owners not looking after their projectors and prints.

Sometimes minor wear adds something to the viewing pleasure; you know you are watching real film.

Jaws and Casanova Cat. Both Super 8 200, color and sound.

I got these in the mail today.I could at first not understand what was there as I didn't expect any new films that day. It turned out to be films I had bought in November, but that was slow due to the pandemic. The delays seems random as films from the same seller sent later arrived much quicker. Looking forward to watch these!

Another episode of the original series of the twilight zone on 16mm . These vary in price a lot, depending on the content of the episode and originality of the material, i have about 5 now. My favourite tv fantasy program of the 60's by far, the great Rod Serling........

Paul,

I've always enjoyed watching the Twilight Zone. I have one episode on 16mm film, "Mr. Denton on Doomsday" with Dan Duryea and Martin Landau.
B&W is perfect for these kinds of stories I think.

Hi Robert,

In this Western-themed episode, Dan plays a drunk who gets a second chance. Martin Landau is the town bully that gets his due.

Yes a good one Greg, Dan Duryea was in Sahara with Bogart in the week on freeview. I get outbid a lot on these series, they go for fantastic money, more than a colour feature sometimes such is the interest in them. Always from the USA, a lot famous actors were in the episodes, the william shatner episode comes to mind, a great one......
