RE: What are your most recent film purchases?

#1351 by Tom Photiou , Tue Jul 16, 2019 10:19 pm

Just done a deal for the mega rare film All this and world war 2.
I decided to go for this one due to it's rarity and music by various artists. The film was pulled from its release by 20th Century Fox after the slating it got from critics. it's a 1976 musical documentary. It juxtaposes Beatles songs covered by a variety of musicians with World War II newsreel footage and 20th Century Fox films. The film was severely mauled by critics and lasted just two weeks in cinemas before being pulled.
I took a look on youtube at a couple of short snippets and instantly decided i would like to own this weird but rare movie. The print seems to be in first class condition with excellent colours and no fade so hopefully it's a fuji or Agfa print. Here is a list of the music in this film.
1. "Magical Mystery Tour" Ambrosia
2. "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" (Features John Lennon (under the pseudonym "Dr. Winston O'Boogie") on lead guitar & backing vocals) Elton John
3. "Golden Slumbers"/"Carry That Weight" The Bee Gees
4. "I Am the Walrus" Leo Sayer
5. "She's Leaving Home" Bryan Ferry
6. "Lovely Rita" Roy Wood
7. "When I'm Sixty-Four" Keith Moon
8. "Get Back" Rod Stewart
9. "Let It Be" Leo Sayer
10. "Yesterday" David Essex
11. "With a Little Help from My Friends"/"Nowhere Man" Jeff Lynne
12. "Because" Lynsey de Paul
13. "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" The Bee Gees
14. "Michelle" Richard Cocciante
15. "We Can Work It Out" The Four Seasons
16. "The Fool on the Hill" Helen Reddy
17. "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" Frankie Laine
18. "Hey Jude" The Brothers Johnson
19. "Polythene Pam" Roy Wood
20. "Sun King" The Bee Gees
21. "Getting Better" Status Quo
22. "The Long and Winding Road" Leo Sayer
23. "Help!" Henry Gross
24. "Strawberry Fields Forever" Peter Gabriel
25. "A Day in the Life" Frankie Valli
26. "Come Together" Tina Turner
27. "You Never Give Me Your Money" Wil Malone & Lou Reizner
28. "The End" The London Symphony Orchestra

This is going to be a great movie for me, if only for that soundtrack. Will put up a full review within the next week.
A huge thank you to Ian @ Perry's for this deal.

Just got two films in the mail:
1. Santa's Workshop, 200', color and sound. Not sure yet if this is taken from the Walt Disney Christmas 400' compilation or not. I hope it isn't :-)
2. America On The Moon, 200', b/w, silent. A suitable time to get this as it is 500 years since the moon landing.

Mark,

I also received my print of Quantum of Solace trailer (Quantum Trost - German Title), in scope and stereo, just yesterday from Steve!
A nice surprise in the mailbox as this was on back-order from a few months ago.....

Greg,
I did run the trailers and they look very good, sound quality is excellent ,I have Casino on 16mm and that looks lovely but nice to have on 8 to go with all the other Bond trailers I have. I'm going to run them all again on Saturday night along with Captain America on the big screen,Mark .

I agree with Mark after viewing the Quantum trailer. Sound is great, print is sharp, colors are good. Trailer is fast-paced and action-packed which always makes it hard for me to get good pics.

Here are some iphone pics which sadly do not do the print justice.....

Won Higher And Higher, 400', b/w and sound on eBay. This is the musical with Frank Sinatra. It has the original box. I like listening to Frank Sinatra, and although I haven't seen this film before, I look forward to getting it.

Paul, how did you find Ben-Hur? You don't need to name dealer, just wondered how you found it. I've got reels 1, 3 and 4 of the Kempski. Not completely useful!

Hi Martin, it kind of found me. A forum member offered it to me, a long with another big feature, which was gone with the wind, not my cup of tea, but Ben hur a must. He said it was printed from the negs that Derann purchased from MGM, and he's 100% reliable for info. I hope its as sharp as the el cid print, that's an superb print too. The Kempski prints are usually very good, I have a flat print of Ben Hur, I don't know who printed this though, as they are in plain box's.

Picked up off eBay part two of Over the Top optical feature, I have the feature already but bought it for optical sound testing on my machines, about £9 posted so if anything happens to it on an untested machine it doesn't matter, I was using an optical sound trailer but it isn't really long enough so this should do the job, Mark
