RE: What are your most recent film purchases?

#776 by Eivind Mork , Sat Nov 04, 2017 6:48 pm

I have just bought some new items from two different sellers that have not yet arrived. They are all Super 8's:
1. World in Flames - Battle of Britain - I have looked for this a long time. When this arrives I only miss 2 in the series. It is no surprise that this is difficult to get as it is about the Battle of Britain which is of the more known parts of the war.
2. Mickey Mouse - Simple things (picture of the box from the seller)
3. Donald & Goofy - No Sail - (screenshot from the seller).

A very good week so far :-)

Yesterday I won an auction with Mickey's Fire Brigade (1935). This is the Derann version. Super 8, 200' color and sound.

I didn't know that this one existed on Super 8, and I really look forward to watch this.

Here is a picture from the seller:

It is okay, no need. A bit scared to borrow expensive films. :-) A good home for the films is a good thing, so enjoy them

Thanks for offering though

I think Mickeys Fire Brigade is one of the finest super 8 releases ever. The definition and colour is simply outstanding, it looks almost 3d in places. Of course that's nothing if the cartoon isn't hilarious which it is!

Just picked up a nice looking poly print of Big Business from Mark Mander, and the always watchable Snow Drift At Bleath Gill from Simon McConway - thanks guys! I've also taken advantage of Paul Foster's Autumn sale and bagged an IB Tech 16mm print of Charade (1962) - one of the last great Holllywood comedy thrillers with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. Like most prints this is hard-matted to 1.66:1, which will look great on my 16:9 home cinema screen.

One of the best Hammers. Didn't think I'd find this. Pretty good colour too.

I collect both 16mm and Super 8/8mm and have recently picked up a little of each:
Super 8: Peter Pan (Derann), Clash of the Titans (MGM)
16mm: Peck's Bad Boy with the Circus, and a "Flintstones" cartoon....
While each format has some decidedly unique benefits, I am starting to REALLY appreciate Super 8's size advantage--more films can be stored in
less space!

Kind Regards,
Greg Perry

Martin, terrific find to have gotten "The Devil Rides Out" Derann abridged version and still to have found one with reasonable colour.

I can remember having a copy of this exact same film in the 90's along with other titles such as "That'll Be The Day" etc etc, and they were showing signs of early fade even then!
Remarkable that some have made it until now well preserved under what surely must have been ideal storage conditions.

Greg, great great find with Peter Pan! It took me a very long time to find a good copy of this version film and a degree of luck in finding a charitable and kind overseas collector willing to offer it me!
Not one to be seen often for sale nowadays and a top notch Disney for anyone who manages to land a print when it does occasionally surface.

I think I must have been one of the few who appreciated the relatively small storage space required for Super 8, right from the off!

To me, it's the weight of these things quite aside from anything else when it comes to storage.
Already some of my so called "heavy duty" fairly new storage racking at the lock up is showing some signs of sagging due to weight and this is just containing only Super 8mm film!
Heaven only knows what it would look like if it had anything larger stored upon it!!
