RE: What are your most recent film purchases?

#726 by Eivind Mork , Wed Sep 13, 2017 9:31 am

I just got these films from an auction at the local film club, all color and sound:
* Daffy Duck - People are Bunny - 200'
* Donald's Better Self - 16mm, 400'
* Force 10 From Navarone - 400'
* Goofy's Golden Gags 2 - 400'
* Sound of Music - 400'

I haven't watched them yet. I have Sound of Music from before, but it is very red. I didn't know the quality when I bought this, but it was quite cheap and I hoped it would be better. I have only inspected it manually, but I believe it is about the same as the one I already have.

I have had a few 400' Sound Of Music's Eivind, not had a good one yet, found them very grainy and not much colour.

If I just could find a green and a blue version, I could laminate them together :-) I suspected it was red when I bought it, but the price was very good, so I took the chance. I am not surprised to hear your experience. I don't mind watching red films, but off course it is more fun with good colors. But the opening scene in the alps with green pastures and blue sky and mountains lost a little bit when it was red. The film I already had was in a card board box if I remember correctly. But this is in a plastic box. I will check when I am at the cabin next time.

Picked up a Blackhawk Block Heads, 3x400ft at a very good price. Only checked reel 1 so far, looks great, good contrast and knockout sound. Missing just a few frames at the very start but otherwise A1.

A couple of trailers to serials one Captain Marvel. (I have the full serial) and An old Look At Life the Cinema Steps Out.

I still get a little thrill when a new film arrives, but nothing like back when I first started collecting in the mid 70s.

Mention of the Sound Of Music 400ft Ken Films. Sadly the UK distributors were Mountain Films and quality was not very high on their list.

I still love the smell of film in the morning

The thrill of a new film arriving remains just the same as ever for me I have to say.
I'm not keen on disappointments though if the quality of the film doesn't live up to description and therefore expectations.

When they're spot on though, I love em coming through the letterbox! 😊😊

Vidar,

I have a copy of Fright - its a great abridged feature that still has plenty of atmosphere within the story - a great one for Halloween

me too, a great film even to this day and made it onto Fuji stock being that it was a Walton print.
Lovely colour still and I've mounted mine all on one large 1800ft Posso spool, to view it one run.
Must give it a viewing soon now we are entering the witching hour!

And for a comedy and fun for all Halloween... The Sword In The Stone! 😊😊

For me - Halloween Humour - look no further than the Universal 8 cutdown of Abbott and Costello meet Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde, the full length print of Topper Returns with Roland Young and Fredric March and Veronica Lake in the full length - I Married a Witch

25 dollar for a quart. I did not get the invoice yet, but I think this bottle was 70+ dollars. Will try to remember to plate here when invoice arrives

Can anyone here tell me exactly what this stuff is like please?
Filmguard is great but it does cause problems with crud in the path and on rollers if its over applied, i know this now but in the early days i had all sorts of problems with it.
I have heard lots about the film-renew but you need a gas mask to apply it. BE VERY CAREFUL breathing any of this in mate.

Have i told anyone i'm after Die Hard?

I am not even in ventilated area, but it is quickly done. Was worse the time I worked with White Spirit to remove paint from shelves.

It evaporates very quickly, unlike Film Guard and not experienced any problems with crud in gates, but with Film Guard, I've seen it. Use much less on cloth now and rewind with dry cloth seem to work

I just bought two Disney's, Super 8, 200' color and sound. They are a bit faded, but with color left.

I haven't received them yet. Won on eBay yesterday from a great seller I trust. The seller's description. Looking forward to see with my own eyes :-)

It's nice when you already know or have dealt with an ebay seller previously.
It eliminates virtually all of the usual associated risks with buying subjective things like film from a relative stranger.
I am sure your latest purchases will be fine Eivind based on your previous experiences.
That's usually how it works anyhow.

It sure does, and I believe it goes both ways as I always pays promptly and have never complained.
