Very nice boxes! I love nice boxes like this, but unfortunately not all are original or in good condition.

Which do you think of? I will bring to next meet, I think, but will be keeping some, exchanging some of my tatty or unoriginal ones. Perhaps the leftovers might be some you need?

Thanks! I thought especially on Pluto's Christmas Tree which I love but don't have an original box. I would also love On Ice which isn't original either. If these are some of the ones you won't keep, I'm interested in buying them!

I managed to snag the Derann 4 x 400ft release of THE TITFIELD THUNDERBOLT. I've wanted this for ages (I have the 1 x 400ft on LPP) and this one was housed in the generic later-era Derann boxes with the yellow and black label on them, so I thought it must have been a later print (or could have been re-boxed of course). Low and behold it is on low fade too, and has been beautifully looked after - not a mark on it. There are a couple of printed-in marks, but I imagine the negative must have had a fair few printings by the time my print was struck.

I watched it tonight and what a great Ealing comedy this is, with quite a few familiar faces, including a young-looking Sid James, pre Carry-Ons.

Sounds like you bagged a gem there John. Very well done to you and its nice to hear of people's surprise when they discover there are still many many almost perfect and completely unmarked Super 8mm features out there still!

We hear much of the doom and gloom regarding prints, it's nice when we genuinely hear of the entire opposite from time to time. Ones that surpass expectations.

Well done John, I've had umpteen copies of this over the years and they have all had fade or suffer from sea sickness and fade 🙁, a great find, I love the classic Ealings.

Hello Graham, Neither did I !!!!. From a very reliable source, the earlier one's from Derann were, but suffered from sound striping problems, which were peeled off, the later
prints were on acetate stock ( German prints) of which I also have a copy of now. Will upload some pictures soon of these plus A Bugs life in scope, which suppose to be very nice too. The Hitchcock film, Vidar is always welcome into the fold, they transfer very well to super 8 , be they flat or scope its about the story not just the visuals with his films .

Chicken Run was released by CHC with the help of our American counterparts shortly after the demise of Derann.

It's always been a much sought after print by myself given my love for quality animation, however there are only a very select few prints where image and sound quality warrant the expenditure.

Paul knows his stuff so I'm certain this one he now has, will be one of the better ones, but so far, it hasn't surfaced for me as I'd like one sadly.

There are quite a few full length prints out there that are or have become entirely mute prints. In these cases, they have fetched very little money on every single occasion.

Let's hope among these here, Paul finally gets around to showing us all his now infamous "Indiana Jones And His Last Crusade" mint print!

Derann had a few of the German prints on polyester but the main problem was striping, when I was recording sound for dealer in Cleethorpes, Derek got in touch with me to ask if I could record the sound for him on the prints that he had as he couldn't record sound on single prints, he told me that he got the prints from Germany and stripped them himself, then he sent the prints to me (cant remember what the titles were) when I went to record the prints the stripe was just peeling off, it was just a total mess, the stripe clogged up my sound head on my GS1200, in the end I had to send them all back and say I couldn't do them, as I have said before the acetate print with laminate stripe were far more superior and the sound recordings that I got were superb.

Laminate really was the very best stock ever to be released for Super 8mm film.
How I wish it still existed.

Any recording still to this day, made to a pre striped laminated stock film, will almost certainly still turn out to be simply magnificent if recorded on decent equipment.
