I read that he died in a nursing home in London, with his family by his side.
I actually thought he was better playing "Smiler" in "Last of the Summer Wine", he actually carried on in the role until he was about 80, what a trouper!

I really enjoyed his character of Smiler in Last of the Summer Wine. I'm a big fan of that show and sadly, not many of the major cast members are left.
I used to enjoy that show as well Douglas; used to like the man who claimed he was a descendant of Robin Hood.
I must admit, I was never a fan of "On the Buses" sitcom, but after watching the re runs, I quite enjoy them now, maybe a hankering
for those simpler times, never the less, Stephen Lewis was much loved, sharing the same "old folks home" as his sister. His turn on
"Last of the Summer Wine" is one of the best, much put upon, but he'll do it. R.I.P. Stephen, you certainly earned your rest. God love him.
