CHC offered to buy Derann's negatives from them when they were closing down. No luck though.
Rumour has it they were destroyed.
That is true, they were destroyed so that no one would have the benefit, what a waste, considering Derek himself didn't like to see
film destruction. If he'd still been alive, I'm sure a deal would have been struck. As for "Curse", it is a nice print David, a little on the warm side, but still very nice, a shame that "Curse of the Werewolf" wasn't in their releases.
What was behind the closure of Derann?, was it that the son didn't have the interest of his father, or not the capability.
As far as I know Robert, it was the rates and costs etc on the building coupled with an ever dwindling customer base, then the added problem
of labs, which were Rank at the time. There used to be apologies for waiting times, discounts offered on certain titles at certain periods,
a real litany of problems. A tragedy really, they were one of the biggest and the best. They certainly held on to the bitter end, the end
of an era really, still we have some great films released by them over the years.
if anyone has curse of frankenstein on s8, i'd like to see some screen shots, also deranns release of revenge of frankenstein.

Hi Clyde, I have a print and will put up screen shots when I can, Vidar has kindly offered to guide me through the process, as I am
a bit dense when it comes to computers. I have the majority of Derann's Hammer releases, bar three which I already had courtesy of
Walton & Powell.
thats great hugh, i have a smashing colour print of curse on 16mm and just wanted to compare colour, or see how different they are.

If you both do screenshots, we can also see what gems you have :-)

I look forward to the Screenshots guys. However I am looking even more forward to a print of this film. hahaha !
Just done a load od pics on this film, will get them posted, I hope.
Dense Hugh? NEVER! Man of complete Wisdom!
Cannot wait to see these!!
Andrew my friend, I am like fish out of water with Windows 8.1, I would like to spend just a couple of minutes with Bill Gates, just to
break his limbs and let him know why I'm doing it, hate him & his awful bloody system.
Here at long last are some shots I took from the film, I hate digital photography, I can never get the same quality twice, anyway......
Hugh... thanks for these screenshots. I now realize just how bad the print i returned to Derann was.
It had a more "purplish" hue than this copy.
The search continues for a good Super 8mm print even though its not "perfect" i still want one.
Better still a 16mm print would suffice.
I shall certainly keep a look out for one David, they do turn up, I mean its not that rare, the other titles I've seen on ebay in recent years,
have you mentioned it to our dealers, they are the boys in the know, someone just might be trading a print in, costs nothing to ask, just an email away, don't forget Buckingham film, he gets his share of good items does our Tony.
Sadly, I asked Tony for lists, he never sent me info. To bad the page is not updated and used.
Did you ask him to join here?

They are great screen shots Hugh, I have a few derann hammer horror's on s8 but not this one, I keep getting beat to it, that looks like a good find, I live in hope one day they
as you say turn up. The derann story is such a sad one, towards the end speaking to his son he said the rate's had trebled in one year, and with the other costs going up he could
not continue, although i think the super 8 side was still doing ok. I think the film transfer equipment sound recording went in the skip, I did see lots of things just being thrown
in there. If I had known about the equipment being lost like that I would recovered it and put it in my garage, tragic waste lost forever, so sad .

Thanks for those kind words Paul,David, and Robert, yes it was a very sad time when the "old firm" closed its doors for the last time, though
I find it odd that they destroyed all their negatives, it would have been magnanimous if they had said to Phil at CHC, "here you are
'ol son, best of British, but better than losing 'em altogether." I just thought it a bit "dog in the manger", and not becoming of a fine
company. It also reveals that any allegiance to the film collectors was soon forgotten.
Hugh most of the dealers already know I am still looking for a copy as I keep pestering them about it.
Still it would be great to get one again.
