16mm Viewlex JAN US Army Projector

#1 by Greg Perry , Sun Mar 12, 2023 7:12 pm

Last evening I fired up this 16mm projector. As others have said, it is best not to let a projector sit on the shelf unused for too long.
This projector was built to military specs and so it is "overbuilt". It has both optical and magnetic audio capabilities for 16mm and can also record onto a magnetic track. I bought this in Minnesota from a collector who had numerous pristine, rare and unique projectors. His film collection was very small; he enjoyed the design and the mechanics of the projectors more than watching films.

Here are some pics of the projector and an IB Tech reel from Murderer's Row....Note: The coincidental photo of "Miss Minnesota" from the film...

Thats a machine built to last for sure. How long had it been sat idle before this showing?
Murderers row on IB tech! What a find.

Hi Tom and Thomas,

Thanks for the nice comments. I think it has been perhaps 9 months since I last used the projector. I would use it more often once I figure out how I can use a scope lens with it.
The magnetic sound option is nice as I have a couple of Scopitone reels and one newsreel interview with Bob Keeshan (aka Captain Kangaroo).
