Last week I had an opportunity to visit the Laurel and Hardy Museum in Harlem, Georgia. Harlem is the birthplace of Oliver Hardy and is located on the east side of Georgia not too far from Augusta. The museum was started in 2002 and contains many interesting L&H memorabilia items.
No fee for admittance, but a donation box is available if you care to contribute. Each October the town hosts an Oliver Hardy festival which attracts thousands of visitors. Some of the items in the collection are fairly common, but many others are rare and seldom seen.
The museum has a small theater area where one can watch non-film versions of L&H. At times though, one of the volunteers there apparently does set up a 16mm projector and screens actual films. I was told the city is in the process of restoring an old theater which will then house the L&H museum in the future.
