Laurel & Hardy on reels

#1 by Vidar Olavesen , Sun Aug 05, 2018 9:11 pm

I wish to start a list of all released films on any reel gauge. Both by themselves and as a pair.

Would like to get info like this
Way Out West (if not original title, whichfilm it is from), 3x400’, Super 8, sound, run time (edited or full), Blackhawk

Will try to add my own soon, hope others can help fill the list (no need to start yet)

Pointless?

Mountain Films used to distribute the films before Walton. I have Way Out West from them which is a 4x400ft. If I can find the issue I'll post a scan of the advert for the films.

I still love the smell of film in the morning

Hi Vidar,

L&H also made a cameo appearance in the Thelma Todd short "On the Loose". I have a Blackhawk copy on Super 8.
I will check my L&H films in the next few days and get back to you.
In the meantime, here is some info on 16mm L&H films. I do not know if it is 100% accurate and complete. Maybe it is helpful to you...

I'm probably the only one in the states that collects 8mm sound prints now but I did make a slight mistake. On another post I mentioned that my regular 8mm sound print of The Flying Durces was released by Blackhawk. It is actually a very nice Niles print in a generic Film Classecs brown box. Still a veru nice print. Dosen't really compare to my Manbeck 16mm print but for 8mm it looks and plays very well.

I have a 400ft Super 8 which might have been issued by Perry's Movies.
1) Trailer to "Movie Struck", a reissue title for "Pick A Star" (1937)
2) "A Day At The Studio"
Laurel & Hardy have some sequences in this 76 minutes feature. A young country girl comes to Hollywood hoping to become a star and meets many stars in the process.

Years ago I was a member of 'The Son's of the Desert', and and the American Sears catalogue was selling copies of their first appearance together, 'Lucky Dog'.

I have never seen the L&H sequence from "Pick A Star" before viewing this youtube version today! Great line by Stan when he asks the director (James Finlayson): "..when am I supposed to look dumb?"

Also, the link Maurice provided for the "lordheath.com" website provides tons of information on many other Hal Roach productions including Charley Chase, Little Rascals/Our Gang, Thelma Todd/Zasu Pitts--including some nice images of movie posters and lots more good stuff. A great reference site to bookmark--thank you for posting these Maurice!
