Interesting; I hadn't seen this before. Surprised you could edit a copy of 'Genevieve' down to 30 minutes.

More than £500 for 'Gone with the Wind' was a lot of money back then. Derek mentions an increase of interest in Super 8 beginning 3 years before. He must have been talking about Derann films only, as I was unaware of any renewed interest. This was a year before I stopped purchasing.

I think you may be right Robert. It was pretty much only Derann and CHC that were releasing new item, because most of all the other companies were in decline, Derann would have had quite a monopoly for the hobby. Of course i think we all agree that if Derann had been gone by the early 80s, Super 8 would be pretty much gone by now. If you look at all the catalouges they produced in the 80s and 90s it was clear that Derann were keeping the 8mm industry alive along with Phil at CHC. In fact, what a lot of people dont know, it that at one point CHC released More titles than Derann did. I will get the years and facts and get back to you on this one.
Derek and the hobby must have got quite a nice boost from this TV spot in 86. It certainly would not have done our hobby any harm.

I don't think anyone had as much power as Derek Simmonds; getting those deals with Disney, Warner, and MGM. Back in the 60s GWTW was going around the cinemas, and MGM said it would never be on TV as it was still making money, but a few years later the BBC did acquire the rights to show it, it probably cost about one million pounds then. If he was alive today, I think the company would probably still be in business. I think you're right Tom, if Derann had gone in the early 80s, that would have been it for Super 8.

Tom,
I never get tired of seeing others home theaters and film collections. This was enjoyable and Keith Wilton nicely articulates some of the reasons we enjoy this hobby. It has been a long, long time since I have seen the curtain closing across a movie screen and the house lights gradually coming on at the end of a movie...and here it is being done in a home theater!!

Those were the days Greg, the lights used to dim, and then these transparent curtains would lift as the British Board of Film Censors certificate appeared on screen. As a boy,I used to spend a few minutes outside after looking at the front of house stills, before getting the bus home.
