I think a lot depends on the film. Some really need the scope screen to show them off. I regret holding off buying a flat print in the hope that a scope release would arrive. I think Walton only released Hannie Caulder on 4x400ft, but did other releases only 400ft scope. Would have bought 8 Bells feature and might have bought Shalako and Northwest Frontier.


I still love the smell of film in the morning

Some films really need the widescreen; once in a while you see a film where they have really made full use of the process. The last film that I saw on TV that I thought looked really beautiful was the 1957 film, 'Boy on a Dolphin' (Alan Ladd and Sophia Loren). In the end it became the norm to shoot widescreen, but many pictures look OK in flat versions. One film I think would have suited the process, but was made just a couple of years too early was 'Shane'.
