A test of new forum part

#1 by Vidar Olavesen , Tue Feb 27, 2018 10:49 pm

I decided to add a General Yak part, but meant only for those who want it. What I need help with is a few things

1. Do your forum now include a new part (bottom I suppose)?
2. Anyone want to join there to talk about whatever? Let me know, I will change you to Plus and then need to know if all normal parts are still there for you. Anyone?
3. Should it be no rules in that section? As only the ones choose to join it, should see it?

Thanks

my own opinion is that this forum be kept as a film forum.
There are other forums for other things to talk about, while people would be in there talking about whatever, then they wont be on here talking film.

If only members requesting to be upgraded see it, then those who you may wish to read it wouldn't see it. I'm OK if all members can see it, but I think the rules of no religion or politics should apply, as they have caused more trouble than anything else in history. Also I don't want to see digital discussed there, as the reason for this forum was to talk solely real film. Digital can be discussed in the other forums. That's just my view.

Reading Tom's answer, maybe it's best left alone.

I agree Tom, fir normal members it should be just that, a film forum. But option for those who want banter of any kind, can do that, without normal members noticing it at all ( if that works as I think)

Can any see the part?

Opening a section up to an essentially “moderator-less” approach will only result in the forum devolving into what it was before Robert’s new role. The successful forums are those with an assertive moderator/forum leadership that’s applied to ALL sections.

My view is that this forum is finally on solid footing — I vote for keeping it that way.

Vidar .
Leave the forum as is.
You will open a whole can of worms if you have a free for all.
Sorry this does NOT get my vote.📽

Please don´t do that Vidar. Let Reelmagic be a forum for reel film collectors. It´s good as it is, if members just follows the rules. Maybe we should star "Grumpy Old Men´s Quarrel Forum" for those who have a problem, following the easy rules, being polite and discussing just film and equipment

I am in full agreement with all what has been said here and I entirely agree with Gwyns last comments here.

If we are to open up a new section to our forum, in light of what I've just seen and read, perhaps a more suitable one to keep our membership happy here would be to offer a "Dealers Information Board " section Here.

This way when a dealer has important information regarding website updates, New lists being made available or conventions approaching etc etc etc, they can use this section solely for their own purposes to promote their goods and services.

Only bona fide recognized dealers should have the authority to post on this section if one were to be introduced here and it would keep their important information to all members top of the pile in terms of visibility until another dealer has something else to share on it.

Dealers membership to all forums ARE very important as they provide the lifeline of keeping this hobby alive and vibrant I feel.

I wish in future we could also entice Ian and Phil to our forum to complete the compliment.

That's a good idea of Andrew's. Personally, I always go back each morning to the last post I read or commented on, then I know I haven't missed anything.

Remember Vidar, the sole reason you did this forum with Robert at the start was because you only wanted a forum that is for Film talk only, so lets keep it to that mate,

But since people can not stop stuff like this, I thought it was a good idea. If you all decide NOT to be a Plus member, you won’t see any of the new forum part, remember. It willbe only for those who want and must talk non film (which happens from time to time)

Stay «normal member» and see no difference

Vidar, it’s ultimately up to you, but since Robert became moderator, I see the forum now finally serving its intended purpose. I see very little nonfilm and other formats discussed here. And I think we need to steer clear of being pedantic when an innocent reference of another format is included in discussions that are overwhelmingly film-related. It is 2018, and we can’t totally cocoon ourselves either. Life’s too short for that. Heck, it’s technological advances that enable us to have this forum in the first place! 🙂
