GS1200 new cap

#1 by Del Phillipson ( deleted ) , Fri Mar 17, 2017 10:09 am

I tried re recording last year on the old GS1200 and the results were just awful, I thought that was it, leave it alone. Fast track 10 months and a new capacitor fitted with the help of our very own Paul Browning and a little digging and homework, I can honestly say I didn't realise the sound on a magnetic track could be this good, WOW and that's an understatement. Time to sort out the ESS switch now and then we are down to some serious re recording

That is superb news Del!! Well done also to Paul for his advice and guidance on this.
There then, this is the very first "how to" post , for our new section here Del.

Should read like a Haynes manual hopefully in a few months time.

I wonder if my GS has the same problem. Sounds awful, I have thought it was PC output perhaps being poor

Well done, can I now send my Terminator to you for re recording? ;-)

They are notorious for needing these capacitors changing from time to time Vidar, just as with any other aging equipment. Almost certainly, your equipment would benefit from a similar exercise when you have time.

John Clancy reported sending his to Kevin Faulkner to do this work on his many years ago. This was said on a forum only a few days ago.

Vidar, 100% your's will need changing, my recording was awful, very crackly and distorted, it now sounds brilliant, still got some work to do before I can actually do some proper re recording but step by step I'm getting the boxes ticked

Hi Mark, was it you who had the Bruce lee titles, in particular The game of Death. I purchased these recently but this did not come with the original box's, do you have these originals, and could you upload some screenshots of the box art please. These will need the sound changing back to English from German, another job to add to the long list of to do's, thank's .

It would be nice if nearly everyone left in the hobby in say ten years time has managed to update all of their soundtracks.

It'd certainly be one less thing to concern ourselves about when buying the newer prints from anyone then.

Many of the laminated ones are good enough to begin with but it's still tempting to modernise even these when you hear the results.

The better they are to begin with, the more success you generally have with subsequent recordings.

Such a shame now, this report will apparently never be posted now due to Del's decision to leave us all here.

I can only wish him well in his future ventures and hope one day he returns here.
Del has consistently visited this forum and is a very lively and enthusiastic collector and one I consider a very good friend now.

I wish you all the very best Del as I'm sure everyone does.

I am sure there must have been Dave, but whatever they are, I am not privy to that information.
I haven't pressured Del in any way for an explanation, it's his business and that's that.

It's just saddening as ever to lose one of our most respected members here and an avid collector, just as we have in the past.
