New Magazine, still no Q & As

#1 by Tom Photiou , Mon Jan 16, 2017 6:47 pm

Hi all, received the new film collector magazine but still disappointing to see my Qs & As are still not in there.
For those who took the trouble to answer my questions i apologies. I will be ringing Phil tomorrow to ask why though as he did ask me to re-send it to him so he could get it in there.
I will let you know what he says tomorrow. Gutting really as i spent a fair time on this, hopefully it will be in the next one without fail, looking at it i think it would have benefited from the 4 extra pages. As of yet i have not pestered anyone else with any questions until i know it will end up in the Magazine.
I originally completed this in April last year, i knew at that time that i had missed that particular publication though.
If they arnt in the next one i will put them up on here.

Have i told anyone i'm after Die Hard?

This may account for why people don't go to too much trouble to submit to Phil reams of articles and documents that would perhaps be construed as interesting to the cine community for the benefit of the magazine Tom.

I say this with no pleasure, but it may be close to truth of the matter for many individuals.

I eagerly await the responses to your questions from April of last year on here soon Tom!

Hi Graham,
Well, i did a while ago and he did say it was to go in the issue just released. When i got the mag i was going to ring him but i noted on the inside page there is a small statement to say that a couple of larger items, (mine included), were not able to be put in and that they will be in the next issue. I've got an idea he is only able to do a certain amount of pages. We shall see.

A lot changes in 9 or 10 months though Tom, even in this hobby.

If it takes 10 months to go to print for anyone's articles, I am sure this would put quite a few people off bothering submitting their scripts.

It's not good Andy. Have to say it is the first time that this has happened though.

Oh well that's some good news then Tom.

I was only thinking back to letters and articles from readers of FFTC.
Most of the things I've read were really topical at the time. Convention reactions and the likes.

I was just picturing it the same way as this, where letters from a convention make it to press just before the next one! 😂😂

Thanks for the reply. I did wonder if he just held it back to fill up the next issue. I must admit I decided not to renew my subscription as I felt there wasnt enough in each issue to warrant the cost but I might change my mind. I shouldn't really say that as Phil puts a lot of work into this. I have other film mags which I prefer and FC is only 3 issues a year. I do miss Keith Wiltons column but since there are no new films anymore, there are no reviews. Plus there is so much interest and reviews on these forums I can Do without FC.

Hi Andrew, just so you know Keith Wilton still writes his Super 8 film review inside the current Film Collector mag. But if you dont subscribe or stop subscription your never gonna see it anymore.

i still subscribe purley because it is the only cine only dedicated magazine. Nice to see other collectors items in there. e did say he had a very good response back along after i put out my calls for help so therefore i am guessing it is to spread it out. Though in his last letter out he does say renewals are way down so it may well fall.
I understand a few people took offence to the,(and i agree) unnecessary mention of Paul's problems last year.
That was certainly not for the magazine. I fully understand where people were coming from on that.

Not at all mate. As i said, i fully understand the reasons and dont blame anyone at all who didn't resubscribe to the mag for that reason. I think in a way thats a good thing as its a good way to show support another dealer.
In fact there are many on the other forums to. It definatly wasn't an article for our mag & as it took a whole page is probably one of the reason why my own article didn't make that issue.

To my way of thinking, irrespective of what you may or may not feel about Paul Foster, the article was just a real cheap shot imo.

By the time the mag went to print, it wasn't news to anyone.

It simply didn't need publishing, especially by another dealer.

Real bad day at the office imo.

I agree, that was my thinking at the time. Id read the same articule word for word online. I dont pay for magazine to read stuff Ive seen on the net for free.

I put my point across at the time about Phil's article on Paul Foster, I admit I was very blunt about it and don't regret my post on it, I wouldn't bother with the magazine now, he's no angel himself, Mark
