any computer experts here

#1 by David Alligan , Sun Dec 18, 2016 9:40 pm

I know this is nothing to do with film but I am in desperate help, we have a up pavilion laptop and the cd\dvd drive is not recognised in my computer or in device manager I was wondering if anyone could give me some idea how to get the drive back.
Its working as you can push the button and eject the tray and when you put a disc in the tray goes back and you can hear the disc going round its just that the drive is just not recognised by the computer, the operating system is windows 8.1
Thanks everyone
Dave

It sounds like you'd just need to install the drivers for the disc drive once again Dave.

You'd need to know the make and model of the disc drive and then download the drivers for it to work again with any luck? These type of downloads are free on the web.

I'm no expert on these matters but guys like Eivind or Vidar may know more hopefully.

Check the device manager and see if there is any error messages there. If it has an !, it might be a driver problem. Has it been opened lattely? If so, check cables. If you need help, download Teamviewer from www.teamviewer.com ... Install it and let me know the ID and the password given by Teamviewer, I can check for you

Good luck

Just an update turned out that the CD drive has failed, we are going to get a new laptop as HP wanted £132 to repair it.

That's a lot of money to fix a cd drive, you could buy a second hand laptop for that. They tend to watermark the components so that nothing else will work other than
there own brand, bloody cheek of it, I prefer Asus as they make there own motherboards and for other manufacture's and the gamers too, so a high demand is put on
them, each to there own though.

Agreed, Asys board inside or a Lenovo. Look around for any of those

I was quite busy last night and so I am slow to reply. Sorry to hear your drive went dead. Lenovos are great, but they are famous for their T-series and X-series. The cheaper ones they make are not in the same league.
