Wish They Were...

#1 by Andrew Woodcock ( deleted ) , Sat Dec 17, 2016 4:40 pm

Just watching The Birds again on TV.

How I wish this one had been put out on eight by someone like Red Fox or Derann...sigh.

Great film and I love any film with Rod Taylor in it.
Tippi Hedren is great in this one also.

What classic films on eight do you wish were released on Super 8mm feature length, but sadly, never were ?

I would love Wild at Heart, but it is too new I suppose to be called a classic. Rear Window is perhaps one and Planet of the Apes

I've never owned a full-length feature on super 8, and I don't know everything that has been made available on 8. But I can think of a ton of movies that I would like to have in digest format, had they been released:
See No Evil (1971), The Omega Man (1971), The Miracle Worker (1962), Grizzly (1976) [I know that one exists in German sound], Audrey Rose (1977), Rollercoaster (1977), The Stepford Wives (1975), One Dark Night (1983), The Legend of Lizzie Borden (1975), Escape to Witch Mountain (1975)...just off the top of my head.
I guess some of these wouldn't make good digests though, as they are too complex to cut down to 17-18 minutes.

Been busy watching film :-) I am too new to know what is out there. I am never sure what has been made on 8, so I am not able to make the list. But I see that David says that Rear window is not on 8, and then I can make that as the first item of my list. One of my absolute top favorites. A bit sad to see it is not on 8.

I just realized, my list is not classics as Andrew requested, except for "The Miracle Worker". My list consists of 70's drive-in fodder. By the way Andrew, "The Birds" (1963) is a FUN movie! :-)

All of a sudden, things are quiet on this post. I take it everyone is trying to get ahold of Dave G. to snag those films! He he! :-)

:-) I just asked here, he replies when he has time. I am not sure I can afford them anyway, assume high prices.

The price question goes for me too. I must be able to tell my wife afterwards if I buy Rear Window somewhere sometime :-)

For me it has to be:

Murder She Said
Murder at The gallop
Murder Most Foul
Murder Ahoy

Would love these on Super 8, it's the only thing that would ever get me to 16mm if I was ever offered them on 16mm.

No mate, they are all Margaret Rutherford Miss Marple films, absolute classics in the Phillipson household, if fact we are due to watch them again straight after the new year

I love Agatha Christie, but I don't know the old classics on screen. And I know her best by the Norwegian titles.

Sorry guys, by terming this as classics, I was simply referring to films that COULD have possibly made Super 8mm rather than titles that came a little too late really to have stood a chance to have realistically made it onto full length feature film release.

So for example titles like Saving Private Ryan or the Shawshank Redemption would have been brilliant to see up on our small screens, of course given the era of their release, this would never realistically have happened sadly.

Films like "Rear Window" or "The Birds" are perfect examples of what we are talking about here.

I know that for some Disney aficionados, "Bedknobs" would have been a wonderful addition to their collections, but for myself personally, there are others missing like "Robin Hood" , that I'd have preferred to have seen released.

Another classic favourite of my own, I'd have liked to have seen would have been "the beast with five fingers" on eight.

Another I'd have liked to have seen would have been "Christine" and definitely a more official release of "Jaws"

Ironically, both Beast and Christine are only scored modestly on IMDB at 6.6.
So not everyone's cup of tea clearly.

Here's one and it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I love Paint Your Wagon. Also Enter The Dragon Derann style would have been amazing. Home Alone 1 & 2 and maybe Christmas Vacation.
