The John Smiths Adverts of the early 1980's

#1 by David Skillern , Sun Nov 06, 2016 1:30 pm

Hi Guys,

I have recently watched on youtube the almost complete John Smiths T.V adverts of the early 1980's - these are highly humerous and repeatable and one of them pays homage to Laurel and Hardy - the almost complete set runs at just over 8 minutes - it has a definite Last of the Summer Wine feel to it - but it is an excellent watch. Now has anybody got information as to whether any of these - featuring the wonderful Gordon Rollings as Arkwright - were released on 8mm or 16mm and if they weren't - someone has missed a trick here - just as the Carling Black label adverts were popular in some of Derann's advert reels - these could make a highly entertaining 300ft of film that as i said earlier - would be highly repeatable.

The only one I recall was for John Smiths lager which didn't last long it became Fosters.

I still love the smell of film in the morning

They did miss quite a few adverts for beer and lager. The 'Stones' one was good on a train. And to think I cut them out when I used video recording. Should have kept them better than the programmes now.

Still Cinzano Bianco for me. Joan Collins & Leonard Rossiter. Pure genius! 😂😂😂
