Does anyone here like the old Derann film cleaner?

#1 by Andrew Woodcock ( deleted ) , Wed Mar 02, 2016 2:14 pm

I have a couple of part used and full bottles if anyone likes this stuff?
I found it lethal on anything other than pre striped stock where sound film is concerned, but it's ok to use on optical prints I've also found.
I was keeping it back just to use on these, but won't be needing it in the future now if anyone is interested in this stuff.

It's not the best Tom, that's for sure. It works well as a cleaner but not very good as a lubricant.
As said, for optical prints, it's fine but it's not to be trusted at all on pasted striped films.

Its good for cleaning pinch rollers and sound heads on cassette players, and on the sound heads of your projector, I have not used it on film of any kind including prestripe,
I paid £2.00 for two from Derann, not really the bargain I thought, but I have some uher cassette players so its good on them.

I appreciate Andrews very kind offer, but I am always reticent of these new cleaner/lubes. Derann should have done their homework.
They announced these cleaners "As used by the professionals" or "Kodak's cleaner", when in fact some poor souls might as well have
used Domestos! Not that Andrew would unleash anything untoward on members, I love my film, as we all do, so I apply caution in applying these things, indeed as Elvind has just done regarding
WD40, it doesn't seem to have anything in it that should cause concern, as I stated, I use it as a lube, a very cheap one too. I wonder if
Andrew's cleaner contains Isopropyl? Paul noted this which is ideal for soundheads etc, although I still use Meths, since my Pet Ether ran out. In which case Andrew's cleaner is brilliant for cleaning the electro stuff. So members grab a deal, Andrew is offering a cleaner that should be
great for that purpose. Thank you Andrew.
