Gelatine in Film

It may be a good thing from a moral standpoint that the days of use of FILM in the industry is now almost over for good.
I often wondered how much animals have been slaughtered over the decades so we can be entertained and informed on this medium. Its a pity they never found a substitute for it . Gelatine I mean .
