I think we should move the whole thread to Film Talk in General? Or is it better not to have it open (Film Talk in General is open to guests)

Vidar,
It looks like there are purchase threads in both the 8mm and the 16mm film sections.
Maybe it is good to keep in appropriate section for consistency?
Either way is fine though; don't see problem with leaving it visible to public in General section myself....

Sounds similar to my experience Don; all films from one seller, neither in a box or can. One was advertised as 2x1600ft spools, when it came the packing was open with the film showing. 1600ft was on a 1200ft spool, and overhanging. My worry, also as the film was not taped was that it would suffer from cinch marks. This was a particularly rare film, that once sold, I doubt I would see another. I was very relieved to find that no damage had occured. It was a miracle it got here at all. This particular seller is getting a reputation for selling Vs and poor packing. You would think that any seller would go to the trouble to try and ensure that the film arrives in the condition it was sent out in.
My cousin is an Elvis fan and has all the films and other stuff on DVDs. Plus she has a lifesize figure that was a display model in a shop

Just taken delivery of a lovely looking (and quite rare I think) super 8 full length feature: Dr. Strangelove, Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb. I'm a huge Kubrick fan, and regretfully sold my 16mm print of this title many years back, but this will tide me over. Funny to think I started the week watching 2001 in 70mm and I'll end it watching another Kubrick masterpiece in 8mm!

I'd like a Kubrick film or two, aside Dr Strangelove i think it would only be 16mm that fulfil my wants.
Full metal Jacket,(number one want of Kubrick films),
Path's of Glory, (number two want),
A Clockwork Orange,
The Shinning
As you probably know he only actually directed 13 films, but was a director.

I just bought "World War II, G.I. Diary - The Flying Fortress" today on eBay. Super 8, 400' color and sound
This is a documentary about WWII narrated by Lloyd Bridges. Tom wrote a nice review of one of them a while back. I have most of the episodes from World in Flames, but this is my first in the G.I. Diary series. I am very interested in WWII history, and I really look forward to watch this one.

I like the Bridges, Lloyd in Mission Galactica was my first meet, loved him since. Jeff has been a great favorite too and Beau certainly is not far behind

The first film I remember with him was Hot Shots (1991) :-) But I can imagine he is having a good voice for narration.

Well done Elvind, we have a few of these now, the quality is generally good, some of the footage is quite astonishing and some quite grizzly, (not too much though). Dont be put off if the one you have doesn't have much colour, Each episode is very different, some much better than others. We really enjoy this series and Lloyd Bridges narration is excellent. Cant wait for your review if dont mind.

My first memories of Lloyd Bridges is the TV series 'Sea Hunt', 1962 I think. He's a favourite of mine as well.

Tom, I only saw Paths Of Glory for the first time a few years ago. What a devastating film that brilliantly captures the futility of war. People say Kubrick was an impersonal director but I think he was incredibly sensitive to the human nature.

Paths Of Glory is one of my favorites too. Its so well made and the story is unforgettable. Also a big fan of Kirk Douglas. Bless him 101 years old. What a life.

I just got two Super 8 reels of what I believe are Derann "openers" and "intermission" segments. I may not be using the correct terminology for these, so let me know the proper name please...
Reel#1
Reel #2: has the "stewardess" segment...
As you can see, some segments have faded color, other parts have excellent color. I am thinking this is all they had to work with for negatives (?)
I have a few in 16mm that are similar and they are always a lot of fun to add to a film show. These are the first I have been able to get in Super 8.
Interested in any additional information about where the "stewardess" segment came from etc.
Thanks much!

i do like these little 200ft reels of tag and adverts. i never thought they would end up being sold for so much money though. We now have 15 ad reels and some odd reels of tags, i cant let these go though. As i said in a previous post in this thread, these reels really can take you to certain time like music does. They are generally all great quality to.
I havnt seen those before Greg, i'd be interested to know which reel that was in the catalogue.

I never bought any of those, but they would have been nice, as it's all part of the old cinema. I think DCR might have done something. I do remember someone brought out a reel that included Lyon's Maid Ice lollies, and Eldorado ice cream; I just about remember that brand of ice cream.

I have a couple of the Derann ad reels. I like them very much. One that I have the one ad that I do remember has someone sliding off the hood of a car that's pretty funny. And some animated dinosaurs on the same reel. I'll have to watch it again as I can't remember the rest. I have not seen the one you posted pics of Greg but it looks good. Those reels make nice show openers.

A little more looking turned up the "stewardess" segment on youtube. Apparently originally from National Amusements...

The two films I bought were under 100 feet each and, thankfully, were nowhere near the prices of those other recent advert reels up on ebay.
Some black lines here and there but not horrible.

Ads are fun! I have a some on 16mm from American TV. It is very nice to have as a kind of time capsule. I also have one 50' reel on Super 8 with two Pepsi commercials. The color there are much better. I wish I had some Norwegian ads, but I have only seen those on 35mm.
