Those where the days

Once upon a time, you could buy films in the United States and have them shipped to Europe at a reasonable cost. In the seventies I bought lot of films from american dealers. 4th class media mail was not express, but I always got the stuff I ordered. Today I found this little box, containing a 800ft 16mm film on a metal spool. Cost $ 0.95. OK it´s from 1959, but what. Nowadays shipping often cost several times the price of the film.

Shipping is killing my enjoyment of eBay with their global shipping thingy. Makes it even more expensive

I do have to laugh at the ebay 400 foot items offered with postage extra at around 20-50 pounds.
Do they think we are daft?

I was against the ebay in house shipping, but look at it this way, on private shipping it was costing me a bloody fortune,in some cases way above the film cost, I realise that someone has to be paid for delivery, but am now in favour of the ebay in house, it is cheaper unless you ask the seller to send sea mail. which from Australia is the best option, I speak from experience.

I recently bought a 400´16mm film from California from a private seller. The airmail shipping was $15. I believe Ebay charges 3 times that. ( the film was $25 )

That's my impression too. I skipped bidding several times due to the global shipping program

Mats , not to say that what you say is wrong, but at present, a three spool 16mm feature sent through ebay is £26.00 or $44.00, I have
been charged much more by private shipping. I don't care really, as long as I get my film, result, happy collector.

I do appreciate that the Global Shipping program is longer, but it can sometimes be cheaper
