Hi Gwyn, did it come like that unspooled in a bag? What happened there?

Hugh,to be fair I knew it was coming unspooled in a bit of a mess. The film came from Dave Guest and it was he who unfortunately had the film come unspooled while making it up for someone. He knew I wanted the film but I was second in line, well as luck would have it I got it at a very good price and was quite happy to sort it out and re spool etc.I already had three reels of earthquake but was missing the end,so I am really happy as I now have more than enough to complete my feature.BIG Thanks to Dave Guest for letting me have the film.

Asterix conquers Rome. German sound, 400' color. My plan is to move the German sound to the balancing track and record English (or even better, Norwegian) to the main track using my GS 1200. I can maybe edit something from a digital version. We'll see.

Not very well packed then, and you could end up with cinch marks. Some dealers in the US offer films on spools to save postage, but how much postage is saved, what's the weight of spools?, spools can cost a bit, then you want them to match. The cost of maybe 3 1600ft spools plus postage, would probably outweigh the cost saved in carriage. Couldn't David have re-spooled it before sending?

Currently, the Harrow Cine and Video Society have a number of 16mm spools for sale on their website.

Robert im very happy with what I got the film I am missing is on a spool so the film in the bag is spare and as I say I was aware that I was getting a bag of film.
I would not normally do things this way its just I wanted the film because the version I already had was the us tv print which runs 160 mins and I needed the last reel not the british one which is only 132mins.
Now I have plenty of film no problem.

Dave, you were spot on earlier with the origins of the film, it was indeed a Derann mid 80's print and as you quite correctly pointed out, is not in its original box containing Derann's original artwork.
Whoever previously owned it did a terrific job of the box art though I think. It just needed the Derann logo adding somewhere to make it complete. I will try to scan and add the logo to the existing artwork I think with this one.

Where Eagles Dare. 3x400, color (quite red it seems before projection) and sound. Look forward to view this. One of my favorites!

Elvind, send me your address and I'll put some gels in the post for you to offset the colour fade.

I've just bought Superman the movie 400ft from Paul Foster. Still waiting for it to arrive.

I got a copy of the 3 x 400ft release that a previous owner had mounted on 2 x 600ft spools, and I understand there's some footage I can add from the 1 x 400ft release. This is my third attempt at buying the 400ft release - the others have all been too red and I want it to match as well as it can - the 3 x 400ft version I have has pretty good colour still (well there's still plenty of blue in Chris Reeve's get up).

Has anyone done this to their copy of Superman? The person I bought Superman from also had a copy of Star Wars (2 x 400ft) that had been edited in the correct order. Unfortunately on that one there's too much of a difference in the film stocks and sound - it goes from pretty quiet to VERY loud so I have to stay by the projector when screening that one else the audience jump out of their seats.

Just received my 800ft copy of For a few dollars more. Colour as advertised, more toward the brown side but OK for now. Sound is in English and have to say very good quality. That Ennio Morriconnie music coming through the home cinema speakers is great. Will do a full review later, obviously always a little disappointing when there is some fade but with a title so rare i can let that go.
One off the list.

Thanks! Blue and green gels? ;-) I must add that I knew it was somewhat red when I bought it. But it looks more red than I thought it would. But we will see when I watch it tomorrow. A fair price anyways.

These gels are super. I do like the cyan filter set from eBay, as you can combine three intensities for mamy variations.

OH! We are not talking about gels like in candy? I really need to improve my English skills. I thought you wanted to send candy as comfort for the red color and meant it like a joke since I received candy this week with a film. Sorry! My English teacher would be ashamed!

That is very kind! I have a blue greenish plastic filter I use for red film. Is that what you call gels?

Yes, it's a plastic sheet (mine are rounded to fit in a holder to put onto the front of the lens. They are really nice for red prints. See those skies in A Man Called Horse get back to blue.

Aha! I have the same set as you, Vidar, so I am all good. But thanks again, Hugh. I really appreciate your kindness!

But the candy joke that only existed in my head due to bad language skills was funny, though. I laughed here and found it funny! :-)
